village & Culture
Several historical finds have been made that testify to settlement in Jondal far back in time. In Sævarhelleren in Herand, objects have been found that indicate that people have lived there for a full 9000 years. This and the fact that houses and buildings are in the Swiss style from the heyday of rural shipping makes Jondal one of the settlements in Western Norway of highest historical value.
Jondal is one of five settlements in Norway that have been given the status of “National Park Village”.
A National Park Village should have a good host for nature and cultural experiences and can be a good place to live. In addition, there will be a natural gateway to a national park and the settlement will have a clear and implemented environmental profile that reflects the village's development.
19 km away you will find the Folgefonna glacier and the national park where you will find activities for the whole family all year round.
